Job Overview
The Cultural Heritage Documentation Specialist will lead efforts to digitally archive Namibia’s cultural heritage, including oral histories, traditional practices, and archaeological sites. This role combines fieldwork with advanced digital tools to create a comprehensive, accessible database of Namibia’s heritage. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct field research to document cultural practices, artifacts, and heritage sites in Karasburg and surrounding regions.
- Utilize 3D scanning, GIS mapping, and digital archiving tools to create high-resolution records of heritage assets.
- Collaborate with local communities to ensure ethical documentation and representation of cultural narratives.
- Develop metadata standards and manage digital repositories for long-term preservation.
- Prepare reports and presentations for UNESCO stakeholders and Namibian cultural authorities.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in digital archiving software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, GIS platforms).
- Experience with 3D modeling and photogrammetry techniques.
- Strong project management skills for multi-disciplinary teams.
- Fluency in English and Afrikaans preferred.
- Knowledge of Namibian cultural heritage and traditions.
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Archaeology, Cultural Heritage Management, or a related field. Advanced degrees in Digital Humanities or Information Science are advantageous.
Experience
3-5 years of experience in cultural documentation, digital archiving, or heritage preservation projects. Prior work in Namibia or Southern Africa is a plus.
Salary
120,000 – 180,000 SSP per annum, commensurate with experience.
