Job Overview
We are currently seeking a highly experienced and strategic leader to fill the role of Chief Mine Geologist in Tsumeb. Key Responsibilities
- Lead the geological department in the development and maintenance of complex 3D geological models.
- Oversee all drilling programs, including diamond and RC drilling, ensuring high-quality core recovery and logging.
- Manage the resource estimation process and ensure compliance with international reporting standards (JORC/NI 43-101).
- Collaborate with mine engineers to optimize pit design and underground development based on orebody geometry.
- Implement rigorous grade control protocols to minimize dilution and maximize recovery rates.
- Mentor and develop junior geologists, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.
- Conduct detailed structural analysis and geochemical mapping to identify new mineralized zones.
- Ensure all geological activities adhere to strict health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Required Skills
- Expert proficiency in geological modeling software such as Leapfrog, Micromine, or Surpac.
- Advanced knowledge of structural geology and hydrothermal alteration patterns.
- Strong leadership capabilities with a proven track record of managing large technical teams.
- Exceptional analytical skills for interpreting complex geochemical and geophysical data.
- Ability to communicate technical findings to non-technical stakeholders and executive boards.
- Deep understanding of mine safety protocols and risk management in high-pressure environments.
Education
The candidate must possess a Master’s Degree in Geology, Economic Geology, or a closely related Earth Science field from a recognized international university. Professional certification or membership in a recognized geological society (such as AusIMM or GSA) is highly preferred.
Experience
A minimum of 12 years of professional experience in the mining industry is required, with at least 5 years in a senior management or lead geologist role. Experience specifically within base metal or polymetallic deposits is essential.
