Job Overview

The Grid Reliability Engineer will play a pivotal role in ensuring the stability, efficiency, and resilience of Namibia’s transmission network. Reporting to the Senior Transmission Manager, the incumbent will analyse grid performance, develop reliability improvement strategies, and coordinate with operations teams to implement corrective actions. Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and analyse real‑time grid data to identify reliability issues and performance trends.
  • Develop and implement grid reliability improvement plans, including corrective and preventive measures.
  • Coordinate outage investigations, root‑cause analysis, and post‑mortem reporting.
  • Collaborate with generation, distribution, and renewable integration teams to ensure seamless power flow.
  • Conduct load flow studies, short‑circuit analysis, and stability assessments using industry‑standard software.
  • Prepare technical reports, reliability metrics, and compliance documentation for regulatory bodies.
  • Support the planning and execution of grid expansion and reinforcement projects.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and field technicians.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of power system analysis, protection schemes, and reliability engineering.
  • Proficiency with software tools such as PSS®E, ETAP, or DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
  • Excellent problem‑solving abilities and data‑driven decision‑making.
  • Effective communication skills for cross‑departmental collaboration.
  • Ability to work under pressure during system emergencies.
  • Familiarity with NamPower’s grid standards and national regulatory requirements.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or professional certifications (e.g., CEM, P.E.) are advantageous.

Experience

Minimum of five (5) years of experience in power transmission, grid reliability, or system operations, preferably within a utility environment.

Salary

The position offers a competitive salary range of SSP 250,000 to SSP 350,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based incentives and allowances are also part of the remuneration package.
