Job Overview
This role is ideal for professionals passionate about marine conservation and aquaculture development. The Marine Aquaculture Specialist will lead initiatives to optimize fish farming practices, monitor marine biodiversity, and ensure compliance with Namibia’s coastal resource management policies. The position offers hands-on experience in a dynamic coastal environment, with opportunities to contribute to regional food security and sustainable marine projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and manage aquaculture systems for marine species such as mussels, oysters, and fish.
- Conduct water quality assessments and environmental impact analyses for aquaculture sites.
- Collaborate with local communities to promote sustainable fishing and aquaculture practices.
- Develop and implement protocols for disease prevention and aquatic species health monitoring.
- Prepare technical reports and presentations for stakeholders, including government agencies and international partners.
Required Skills
- Expertise in marine aquaculture systems (e.g., offshore cages, integrated multi-trophic aquaculture).
- Proficiency in using GIS and remote sensing tools for marine habitat mapping.
- Strong understanding of Namibian marine regulations and international sustainability certifications.
- Excellent project management and cross-cultural communication skills.
- Ability to conduct fieldwork in remote coastal locations.
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Biology, Aquaculture, Environmental Science, or related field.
- Postgraduate qualifications in Marine Resource Management or Fisheries Science preferred.
Experience
- 3-5 years of experience in marine aquaculture, coastal resource management, or similar roles.
- Proven track record in aquaculture project planning and execution.
- Experience working with Namibian coastal communities or international marine NGOs is advantageous.
Salary
45,000 – 60,000 SSP per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
