Job Overview

The Mining Operations Safety Manager will lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety programs for De Beers’ mining site in Oshikango. Reporting directly to the Site General Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for establishing robust safety standards, conducting risk assessments, and fostering a proactive safety culture among all employees and contractors. Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive safety policies and procedures aligned with local legislation and global standards.
• Conduct regular site inspections, hazard identification, and risk assessments to proactively mitigate potential incidents.
• Lead incident investigations, root‑cause analysis, and corrective action plans to prevent recurrence.
• Deliver safety training programs, toolbox talks, and emergency response drills for all personnel.
• Collaborate with engineering and production teams to integrate safety considerations into project design and operational processes.
• Maintain accurate safety records, reports, and metrics for senior management and regulatory bodies.
• Promote a culture of safety ownership through continuous communication, recognition programs, and employee engagement.

• In‑depth knowledge of mining safety regulations, ISO 45001, and industry best practices.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with a data‑driven approach to safety performance.

Education

The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Mine Safety Engineering, or a closely related discipline. Professional certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, or CSP (Certified Safety Professional) are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.

Experience

A minimum of five years’ experience in a senior safety role within the mining sector is required. Proven track record of reducing incident rates, leading large‑scale safety initiatives, and managing multi‑disciplinary teams is essential. Experience working in Namibia or other Southern African mining environments will be viewed favorably.

Salary

The position offers a competitive salary range of SSP 250,000 to 350,000 per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional performance‑based incentives and a comprehensive benefits package are included.
