Job Overview

The Data Center Operations Manager will lead the day‑to‑day management of AWS Namibia’s flagship data center, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and security of all infrastructure components. This role is responsible for overseeing a multidisciplinary team of engineers, technicians, and support staff, while coordinating with cross‑functional partners to implement best‑in‑class operational processes. The successful candidate will drive continuous improvement initiatives, manage capacity planning, and uphold stringent compliance standards. Key Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of 30+ data center engineers, technicians, and support personnel.
• Monitor and maintain data center uptime, ensuring 99.99% availability in line with Service Level Agreements.
• Oversee power, cooling, and physical security systems, implementing preventive maintenance schedules.
• Develop and execute capacity planning strategies to accommodate projected growth in compute and storage demand.
• Coordinate incident response, root‑cause analysis, and post‑mortem reporting for any service disruptions.
• Ensure compliance with local regulations, ISO/IEC 27001, and AWS security frameworks.
• Collaborate with the Cloud Architecture team to align hardware provisioning with evolving service offerings.
• Manage vendor relationships, contracts, and performance metrics for third‑party service providers.
• Drive cost‑optimization initiatives, tracking operational expenditures against budget.
• Prepare regular operational dashboards and present performance metrics to senior leadership.

Required Skills

• Strong leadership and people‑management abilities with a focus on team development.
• Deep understanding of data center infrastructure, including power distribution, HVAC, and networking.
• Proficiency in monitoring tools such as CloudWatch, Nagios, or equivalent.
• Experience with incident management frameworks (ITIL, DevOps practices).
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills, capable of making data‑driven decisions.
• Effective communication skills for interfacing with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Knowledge of security standards (ISO 27001, SOC 2) and regulatory compliance in Namibia.
• Ability to manage budgets, forecasts, and vendor contracts.
• Familiarity with automation and scripting (Python, PowerShell) to streamline operations.
• Commitment to continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. Advanced certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Certified Data Center Professional (CDCP), or ITIL Practitioner are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.

Experience

Applicants must have a minimum of five years of progressive experience in data center operations, infrastructure management, or a comparable technical environment. Prior experience leading large, multi‑disciplinary teams within a high‑availability setting is essential. Experience in cloud service environments, particularly with AWS services, will be viewed favorably.

Salary

The compensation package ranges from SSP 350,000 to SSP 500,000 per annum, commensurate with experience, qualifications, and demonstrated performance. In addition to the base salary, the role includes performance‑based bonuses, health benefits, and a comprehensive retirement plan.
