Job Overview

The Chief Geotechnical Engineer will serve as the primary technical authority for all ground control and slope stability operations at our Tsumeb facilities. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and implementation of comprehensive ground support systems for both surface and underground mining operations.
• Conduct detailed geotechnical mapping and rock mass characterization to inform mine planning and stability analysis.
• Manage the installation and interpretation of geotechnical instrumentation, including piezometers, extensometers, and radar monitoring.
• Develop and maintain the site-wide Geotechnical Risk Management Plan to prevent catastrophic slope failures.
• Provide expert technical guidance to the operational teams regarding excavation limits and support requirements.
• Oversee the budget for geotechnical investigations and the procurement of specialized monitoring equipment.
• Collaborate with regulatory bodies to ensure all mining activities comply with national safety and environmental legislation.

Required Skills

• Expertise in numerical modeling software such as RS2, RS3, or Slope/W.
• Advanced knowledge of rock mass classification systems (RMR, Q-system, GSI).

Education

The candidate must possess a Master’s Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a closely related geological field from a recognized international university.
