Job Overview
The Field Service Engineer will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of Caterpillar’s heavy machinery and equipment deployed across the northern regions of Namibia, with a primary focus on the Kunene and Omusati areas. This role demands a hands‑on technical expert who can travel to remote sites, diagnose complex mechanical and hydraulic issues, and provide timely solutions that minimize equipment downtime. The engineer will work closely with customers, project managers, and internal technical teams to ensure optimal performance, compliance with safety standards, and adherence to service level agreements. Key Responsibilities
- Perform on‑site installation, commissioning, and preventive maintenance of Caterpillar excavators, loaders, bulldozers, and generators.
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults using diagnostic tools and technical manuals.
- Execute corrective repairs, part replacements, and system calibrations to restore equipment to operational condition.
- Maintain accurate service records, generate detailed reports, and update the company’s service management system.
- Provide technical training and guidance to customer operators and maintenance crews.
- Collaborate with sales and project teams to identify upselling opportunities and recommend equipment upgrades.
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, environmental policies, and company standards during field operations.
- Travel extensively across remote locations, often under challenging weather and terrain conditions.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of heavy equipment mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
- Proficiency with diagnostic software, torque tools, and welding equipment.
- Excellent problem‑solving abilities and the capacity to work independently.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with clients, teammates, and management.
- Ability to read and interpret technical schematics, service manuals, and engineering drawings.

Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical discipline is required. Relevant certifications such as Caterpillar Service Technician (CST) or equivalent OEM training are highly desirable.
Experience
Minimum of five (5) years of hands‑on experience servicing heavy construction or mining equipment, preferably with Caterpillar products. Prior experience working in remote or off‑grid locations within Namibia or Southern Africa will be considered an advantage.
Salary
The successful candidate will receive a competitive monthly salary ranging from SSP 250,000 to SSP 350,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based incentives and overtime allowances are also part of the compensation package.
