Job Overview

The Renewable Energy Project Engineer will lead the planning, design and execution of solar and wind power installations that expand Namibia’s clean energy capacity. Reporting to the Project Development Manager, the engineer will coordinate multidisciplinary teams, manage stakeholder relationships and ensure projects meet technical, financial and regulatory standards. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical design and engineering of solar PV and wind farm projects, including site assessments, grid integration studies and equipment specification.
  • Develop detailed project schedules, budgets and risk registers, ensuring alignment with NamPower’s strategic objectives.
  • Coordinate with civil, mechanical and electrical teams to integrate multidisciplinary inputs and resolve design conflicts.
  • Manage procurement processes, evaluate vendor proposals and oversee contract negotiations for major equipment.
  • Conduct performance testing, commissioning and handover activities, guaranteeing compliance with national standards and safety regulations.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports, progress updates and presentations for senior management and external stakeholders.
  • Support the acquisition of permits and approvals from regulatory bodies such as the Ministry of Mines and Energy.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in power system analysis software (e.g., PSS®E, DIgSILENT PowerFactory) and renewable energy design tools (e.g., PVsyst, WindPro).
  • Strong project management capabilities, including scheduling, budgeting and risk mitigation.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to present complex technical concepts clearly.
  • Knowledge of Namibian energy regulations, grid codes and environmental compliance requirements.
  • Problem‑solving mindset and ability to work under tight deadlines.
  • Fluency in English; proficiency in Afrikaans or local languages is an advantage.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or professional certifications such as PMP, CEng or IEC 61850 are highly desirable.

Experience

Minimum of five (5) years of hands‑on experience in the planning, design or construction of renewable energy projects, preferably within the Southern African region. Demonstrated experience managing multi‑disciplinary teams and delivering projects on time and within budget is essential.

Salary

The position offers a competitive salary ranging from NAD 250,000 to NAD 350,000 per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional performance‑based incentives may be provided.
