Job Overview

The Environmental Compliance Officer will play a pivotal role in ensuring that all activities regulated by the Ministry adhere to national environmental legislation, international standards, and best practice guidelines. Reporting to the Senior Compliance Manager, the officer will conduct inspections, review environmental impact assessments, and provide guidance to businesses and government agencies on compliance matters. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct field inspections and audits of industrial, agricultural, and tourism operations to verify compliance with the Environmental Management Act and related regulations.
• Review and evaluate Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and provide recommendations for mitigation measures.
• Prepare detailed compliance reports, including findings, corrective actions, and timelines for remediation.
• Collaborate with legal and policy teams to develop and update compliance guidelines, standards, and enforcement procedures.
• Offer technical advice and training to regulated entities on best practices for waste management, emissions control, and biodiversity protection.
• Maintain a comprehensive database of compliance activities, violations, and enforcement outcomes.
• Participate in inter‑agency task forces and represent MET in national and regional environmental forums.
• Support the development of public awareness campaigns that promote environmental responsibility and sustainable practices.

Required Skills

• Strong knowledge of Namibian environmental legislation, including the Environmental Management Act, Water Resources Management Act, and related statutes.
• Excellent analytical and report‑writing abilities, with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Effective communication skills for interacting with diverse stakeholders, including government officials, industry representatives, and community leaders.
• Proficiency in GIS mapping tools and environmental monitoring software.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Strong negotiation and conflict‑resolution skills to facilitate compliance agreements.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Ecology, or a closely related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., Certified Environmental Professional) is advantageous.

Experience

Applicants must have 3‑5 years of relevant experience in environmental compliance, regulatory affairs, or environmental consulting. Experience within the public sector or with international environmental standards (e.g., ISO 14001) is highly valued.

Salary

The position offers a competitive salary range of SSP 250,000 to SSP 350,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional allowances for field travel and professional development may be provided.
